The Kestrel 3500 Weather station is used by PIM to take outside weather condition readings before each investigation. This is done to ensure that accurate outdoor conditions are known as outside conditions can have a direct impact on what happens inside a building. Expansion and contraction from changes in temperature and pressure, creaking ceiling joists and rattling windows due to wind gusts, and visible water vapor from changes in humidity are all potential with certain outside weather conditions and all of these things can be mistaken for paranormal activity. PIM will also retake these outside readings if there is a significant change in the outside weather conditions after the initial baseline readings have been taken.

Calculated Environmental Functions

Beyond raw sensor data, the internal software dynamically calculates: [1, 2]
  • Wind Chill: Human/animal cold-weather perception index.
  • Heat Stress Index: Crucial for athlete safety and outdoor labor.
  • Dew Point: Moisture saturation threshold.
  • Wet Bulb Temperature: Psychrometric reading utilizing barometric pressure correction.
  • Barometric Trend: Tracks a 3-hour history to indicate oncoming weather fronts. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Hardware, Design & Build Specs

  • Display: High-contrast, sunlight-readable monochrome LCD with an integrated backlight. [1, 2]
  • Controls: Tactile 3-button system with a Data Hold function. [1, 2]
  • Sensors: Features a patented, user-replaceable 1-inch sapphire bearing impeller and an external, hermetically sealed precision thermistor. [1, 2]
  • Durability: IP67 certified waterproof (submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and MIL-STD-810G drop-tested. It is designed to float if dropped in water.[1, 2, 3, 4]
