Arrival

The group arrived on location at 6:05 pm. They brought in their equipment and set up base camp in the Living Room. They started their control recorders before taking a quick tour of the location to see where the claims of activity occurred. The group began setting up equipment. Outside conditions were taken at 6:55 pm with a Kestrel 3500 Weather Station. Baseline readings were taken at 7:05 pm. Baseline EMF (electromagnetic field) and indoor temperature readings were taken with a Single-Axis Mel-8704R-VIBE. See the below chart for those measurements.

A Sony HDR-SR5 video camera was placed in the Dinette facing the Kitchen. A Tascam DR40 RVPR (Rountree Voice Phenomenon Recorder) was placed by the bed. This device is able to record using two types of stereo microphones. One is sensitive to only sound waves while the other set is sensitive to both sound and EMF waves. This allows comparison later of the two sound tracks to see if anything was recorded in the EMF waves that was not recorded in the sound waves. This is done as there is a theory that Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) are actually recorded from the EMF spectrum and not the audible spectrum. A touch flashlight was placed on the dinette table. The touch flashlight is used in lieu of a flashlight that has had the battery compartment or on/off switch manipulated to function in a way that was unintended. The touch flashlight is activated by two contacts being touched, thus closing a circuit and turning the light on.

A Sony HDR-SR5 video camera and a Zoom H1 audio recorder were placed in the Master Bedroom. A Tri-Field Meter was placed in the Master Bedroom as well. Baseline photos were taken of the items on top of the dresser to document their positions should they move.

A Zoom H1 was placed on the workbench in the Garage.

A Zoom H1 alongside a Sony HDR-CX160 full spectrum video camera, a touch flashlight and the original photo of the client and children that is reported to have been moved were placed in the Basement.

Both members of PIM are equipped with Zoom H1 control recorders, ultraviolet flashlights and an Extech RHT50 datalogger. Control recorders are not only used as another recording device, but also to minimize the contamination that an investigator might create during an investigation. Control recorders are started and time stamped prior to all other equipment being started and time stamped. Time stamps, from a designated watch, are used as a point of reference and make cross referencing easier during evidence review. The Extech data logger measures humidity, temperature and barometric pressure at one minute intervals.

All lights that could not be turned off were covered. Any windows or doors in areas of interest were covered to avoid light contamination from outside sources. It was noted the highway was in the vicinity of the home and light from vehicles could easily be seen coming in through the patio door and Master Bedroom window.

Claims of Activity

  • Items on the dresser in the Master Bedroom are heard moving (per another paranormal team)
  • Dishes are heard moving in the Kitchen cupboards
  • Shadow figures are seen in the Dinette from the Living Room
  • Tools heard moving in the Garage
  • Shadow figures seen in the corner of the Basement
  • A picture of the client and children was found on the floor of the Basement that had been last seen in a photo album in the Living Room
  • A green light was seen moving along the Kitchen cabinets going from the Dinette and turning in towards the Kitchen

Investigation

Basement – 7:32 pm

Denys and Gravy sat in the Basement. They observed several minutes of controlled silence. Controlled silence is a strict technique practiced by PIM. It allows PIM members to get a baseline of the normal sounds in and out of the building. It also allows the building to adjust from the movement of people. Often times, especially on hardwood floors or in older buildings, when people walk across the floors, the floors will have a tendency to want to return to their original state. It is this movement that can cause popping and creaking sounds long after someone has walked over the floor. This can lead to the perception of footsteps being heard when no one is there.

The group began an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) session. EVP sessions can be conducted in multiple ways. Most commonly, EVP sessions consist of several questions asked with a ten second pause in between for possible responses. Questions can range anywhere from general to location specific or history related. There has been no evidence to indicate that specific questions will always result in a response.

It was noted that the clients could be faintly heard outside the residence. The clients, in accommodation to PIM investigating their home, built a camp fire in the backyard and had their two dogs outside with them. No activity was experienced at the time and nothing was captured via audio or video. The EVP session was ended.

END TIME: 8:01 pm

Living Room – 8:02 pm

Denys and Gravy spread out in the Living Room. After observing several minutes of controlled silence, they began an EVP session. It was noted at this time that highway traffic was very apparent at this time of night. There was a constant flow of traffic casting shadows on the backside of the Kitchen cabinets. Looking straight on, it was very apparent that the shadows projected on the cabinets were coming through the trees; however, when seeing the same shadows from the corner of the eye, the same shadows could be mistaken as shadow figures.

No other activity occurred during this time and the EVP session was ended.

END TIME: 8:44 pm

2nd Floor – 8:46 pm

Denys and Gravy spread out on the 2nd Floor. Gravy sat in the Master Bedroom while Denys sat in the Spare Bedroom. The group observed control silence before beginning an EVP session. No activity was captured via audio or video during this time and the EVP session was ended.

It was at this time the group decided to take a short break before continuing.

END TIME: 9:18 pm

Basement – 9:35 pm

Denys and Gravy sat themselves on either side of the Basement. Silence was observed before beginning an EVP session. At 10:01 pm a noise was heard that was not captured on any audio recorder. It was uncertain where the sound came from.

At 10:08 pm a shifting sound came from the corner of the Basement where claims of activity are said to have occurred. Upon further investigation of the sound, no source of the sound could be found and no mice or other small creatures were seen either. Due to the faintness of the sound this was not captured on any of the audio devices in the area.

No other activity occurred during this time and the EVP session was ended.

END TIME: 10:18 pm

Living Room – 10:20 pm

Denys and Gravy moved to the 1st Floor. They closed the curtains to the patio door to eliminate outside sources of light and to see if there was a change in the shadow play. They began an EVP session. It was noted that even with curtains closed, some light managed to get into the room and project itself onto the Kitchen cabinets. The shadow play still does not explain the shadow figures observed.

No other activity occurred during this time and the EVP session was ended.

END TIME: 10:52 pm

2nd Floor- 10:54 pm

Denys and Gravy situated themselves on the 2nd Floor. Denys sat in the Master Bedroom and Gravy sat in the Spare Bedroom. The group began an EVP session. No activity occurred during this session and the EVP session was ended.

END TIME: 11:20 pm

Basement – 11:21 pm

Denys and Gravy sat in the Basement and began an EVP session. At 11:25 pm a popping noise from the Garage was heard. The source of the sound was uncertain, though it was thought to have been caused by the stairs popping back into place after the group had just walked down them. At 11:31 pm, the clients came into the house to inform the group they were running to the store. After talking to the homeowners in the Kitchen, Denys and Gravy returned to the Basement to finish their EVP session.

The group reset themselves at 11:39 pm and continued the EVP session. At 11:51 pm, another sound was heard. The sound came from the Garage area and was mechanical sounding in nature. No other activity occurred during this time and the group decided to end the investigation.

END TIME: 11:55 pm

The group packed up their equipment and waited for the clients’ arrival to discuss the night’s events. Once the clients arrived, Denys and Gravy discussed the investigation before leaving around 2:00 am.

Conclusion

PIM was excited to be given the opportunity to attempt to provide answers for the clients of this home. Due to the unpredictable nature of paranormal activity, activity does not always occur when desired. No evidence was captured during the investigation. Regardless of what may be occurring at this home, it is PIM’s opinion that there is no intent to harm any of the clients, based on the claims of activity. Should activity persist and further investigations are needed, it is recommended to document all activity and contact PIM.

PIM would like to thank the owner of the house for allowing PIM to investigate their home. PIM hopes they were able to assist the home owner in getting some of the answers they were looking for. PIM would also like to extend their services for any future needs regarding the paranormal.
