Arrival

Andy and Chris arrived at the residence shortly before 7:00 pm and were met by the client outside the building. The client led Andy and Chris to her apartment and let them in. The client spoke with Andy and Chris for approximately ten minutes, giving them an update about current paranormal activities since the walkthrough, which was done by Noah and Gravy. The client left the apartment at approximately 7:15 pm. Andy and Chris started preparing equipment for the investigation.

Every member of PIM is equipped with a Zoom H1 digital audio recorder, which is used as their control recorder, Extech RHT50 datalogger, and UV flashlight. Control recorders are not only used as another recording device but also to document the sound contamination that an investigator might create during an investigation. Control recorders are started and time stamped first before any other equipment is started and they are turned off last to ensure any anomalous noises can be cross checked. Control recorders are also placed in a Faraday cage, if possible. A Faraday cage operates because an external static electrical field causes the electric charges within the cage’s conducting material to be distributed such that they cancel the field’s effect in the cage’s interior. PIM’s main goal in using these is to block radio signals from interfering with their audio recorders thus causing false EVPs. The Extech RHT50 datalogger takes a temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure reading once a minute and is used to try and correlate environmental data with any personal experiences an investigator might encounter during an investigation.

At 7:24 pm, Andy and Chris went outside and collected outside weather conditions with a Kestrel 2500 Weather Station. The Kestrel Weather Station is a tool that measures temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure and humidity. A short time later Andy and Chris walked the areas inside the apartment that were going to be investigated, collecting baseline temperature and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings using a single-axis EMF Mel-8704R Meter.

One high definition camcorder and two sound recorders were placed in select areas of the apartment.

In the Living Room/ Dining Room, a Ghost Hunting POV full spectrum action H9 high definition camera was set up to monitor the couch. A touch flashlight was placed on a pillow on the couch (which can only be turned on if the side is touched completing the circuit).

Chris set up two sound recorders in the apartment. A Zoom H1 digital audio recorder was placed in Bedroom 1, which is the client’s bedroom. Another Zoom H1 audio recorder was setup in the Bathroom.

Once all the equipment was set, Andy and Chris started and time stamped all the equipment in the apartment. Time stamps, where obtained from Chris’s Apple Watch, are used as a point of reference and make cross referencing easier during evidence review. All lights, fans and air conditioners were turned off at this point to set illumination with special infrared lights so the camcorders are able to record while it is dark.

Claims of Activity

Investigation

Living Room and Dining Room – 7:46 pm

Andy set himself in the Dining Room and Chris set himself in the Living Room before beginning control silence. Control silence is a method practiced at each new location in a building. It allows for members to get a baseline of noises the building could make throughout the night. It also allows for the group to tag outside noises heard in that area so as not to be mistaken as something paranormal later in the night. This also allows for the building to reset itself after members or PIM have been walking around. Andy and Chris then began an electronic voice phenomenon or EVP session.

At 7:59 pm, Andy heard what sounded like a dog bark from outside. Chris did not hear it. It was later confirmed through evidence review as a dog barking.

At 8:09 pm, a laptop computer on a desk in the Living Room turned on randomly.

No other activities occurred during this session and the team decided to move on to the bedrooms.

END TIME: 8:17 pm

Bedroom 1 and Bathroom – 8:21 pm

Andy went to Bedroom 1 and Chris went to the Bathroom before beginning control silence. After the controlled silence, Andy and Chris reported hearing water dripping, people outside, people talking in other rooms and light coming into the apartment from numerous sources outside. Andy and Chris then began an EVP session.

At 8:24 pm, 8:34 pm, and 8:45 pm, the toilet in the Bathroom was heard running. There was a pattern of about every 10-15 minutes the toilet would be heard running. This is from a leaky seal and the toilet draining.

Nothing happened during this session and the team decided to take a break.

END TIME: 8:54 pm

After the break, the team decided to start the investigation again in the Living Room.

Living Room and Dining Room – 9:31 pm

Andy was in the Living Room and Chris was in the Dining Room areas before beginning control silence. Andy and Chris then began an EVP session.

At 9:41 pm, Andy and Chris heard what sounded like a creak come from the rocking chair.

After review of the control recorder, it was confirmed through evidence review as a loud creak. No visual evidence was captured of the rocking chair moving and PIM believes the noise was caused by contraction of the wood.

No other events happened during this session and the team moved back to the bedrooms.

END TIME: 9:58 pm

Bedroom 1 and Bathroom – 10:04 pm

Andy was in the Bathroom and Chris was in Bedroom 1 before beginning control silence. Andy and Chris then began an EVP session.

At 10:05 pm, 10:16 pm, and 10:29 pm, again the toilet in the Bathroom was heard running.

No events occurred during this session and the team decided to take another break.

END TIME: 10:30 pm

After the break, the team decided to return to the bedrooms to continue the investigation.

Bedroom 1 and Bathroom – 10:58 pm

Andy was in Bedroom 1 and Chris was in the Bathroom before beginning control silence. Andy and Chris then began an EVP session.

At 11:01 pm and 11:15 pm, the toilet in the Bathroom was heard running. No events occurred during this session and the team decided to move back into the Living Room.

END TIME: 11:21 pm

Living Room and Dining Room – 11:27 pm

Andy was in the Dining Room and Chris was in the Living Room areas before beginning control silence. Andy and Chris then began an EVP session.

No activity occurred during this session and the team decided to end the investigation.

END TIME: 11:40 pm

Andy and Chris broke down all their gear, stopped their control recorders and packed their equipment up before contacting the client. The client was contacted twice before Andy and Chris left the apartment.

Conclusion

Based upon the information received from the initial phone interview, walkthrough and investigation there may be some scientific explanations to some of the paranormal claims. After speaking with the client at the apartment, she stated that the previous owner had lots of cats. Those cats were able to urinate on the carpeting in the apartment. Jaime stated that the carpet was not replaced prior to her moving into the apartment. Upon investigation with ultraviolet lights, numerous stains were observed on the carpeting. One conclusion that could be drawn, the client’s friend could have a cat allergy and the rash that breaks out on his arm could be caused by allergens in the carpeting.

The claim of shadow people in the apartment could be caused from either the safety light blinking on the smoke detector in the hallway near the Bathroom or the excessive light pollution from the outside. Cars driving down the street behind the building with headlights on, cause unusual shadowing on the wall. Also shadows are cast by the street lights and neighbor’s lights shining into the windows.

The walls of the building are not insulated well to block noises from other apartments and/or tenants in the building. The sounds/ voices that have been reported might have been those overheard from another apartment. During the investigation, a lot of noise contamination could be heard.

If the client falls sleep on the couch with the television on, the sound of the television could influence the quality of sleep, causing unusual thoughts and dreams that may seem real. The client reported most claims happening as she is falling asleep. Based on the numerous types of medications, PIM believes the client’s likely suffering from hypnagogic hallucinations. PIM also believes the clients experiences bouts of sleep paralysis, which is something reported often to PIM in similar cases.

PIM would like to thank the client for allowing the team to investigate her residence. PIM would be available for any follow-up questions or concerns the client may have in the future.

PIM would like to thank the client and owner for allowing us access to this property. We would be happy to help and assist the client going forward if continued activity is experienced.
